No Satire Please, We're Politicians!

A report has just been released from the Standing Orders Committee for recommendations about television coverage in the House. You can see the the report here. Anyway, one of the proposed conditions of televised coverage is that it should not be used as 'satire, ridicule or denigration'.

In other words, politicians don't want us to see them making asses out of themselves; ie, they don't want to be seen in their natural state ;)

There goes the freedom of the press. Not surprising that the union is up in arms about it all.

  3. Most politicians are self-satirising anyway. They just don't want the media to broadcast the fact.

Nope. I think they don't want the competition, because they seem to be doing a sterling job of ridiculing and denigrating themselves, if Judith Tizard's latest act of self-parody is anything to go by.
