Labour Government Afraid of the People

What are we to make of the Government deciding not to take on Bradford's bill on the Repeal of S59 (The Anti-Smacking Bill) as they were thinking to last week? They certainly had the numbers to pass it, so the only conclusion can be that they were freaked by the reaction of the people. They tried to paint it as a small minority of right-wing Christian fundamentalists stirring everyone up into a frenzy, but the reality is that most of the NZ population, shown by opinion poll after opinion poll, do not want this bill.

Are the Government finally afraid of the people? Let's hope so. That should be the natural order of things in a democracy.
